relationships to educate people on how to prevent and treatsome of the major causes of disease and death that face our communities today."

DIFFERENT FADES OF HEALTH™
Different Fades of Health™ program was initiated in October 1997 in 10 barbershops in four Brooklyn neighborhoods. It has grown to over 20 barbershops in Brooklyn.
The program's objective is to inform men about chronic conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and cancer, as well as about prevention of sexually-transmitted diseases (STDs).
The program uses unique communications tools to engage the men's interest and encourages them to seek health screening.
The Institute recently received funding from the New York City Council to conduct health education on diabetes in barbershops in Central Brooklyn. |

MINORITY ASTHMA PARTNERSHIP
The Minority Asthma Partnership (MAP) Coalition is a network of organizations and health educator advocates in Central Brooklyn determined to increase asthma awareness and subsequent responsive healthy behaviors in minority communities.
In an effort to treat and prevent asthma through community coalition building, AAIUH and its community partners have been awarded a three-year grant from the New York State Department of Health. This grant was awarded to fund the Minority Asthma Partnership Coalition.
Led by AAIUH, the Coalition will deliver outreach, education and disease management services to asthmatics in three underserved areas of Brooklyn: Bedford Stuyvesant/Crown Heights, Flatbush/East Flatbush, and East New York. The Coalition chose these neighborhoods because of their disproportionately high rates of asthma-related cases, hospitalizations and deaths.
