Marilyn Fraser, MD, named to Crain's 2019 Notable Women in Health Care

Crain's honors Marilyn Fraser, MD, named to 2019 Notable Women in Health Care

Dr. Marilyn Fraser joined the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health after medical school, drawn to the institute’s mission of eliminating health disparities through community-based initiatives that address social determinants of health. Its model of community empowerment and engagement promotes health equity and expanding access to care to the most vulnerable populations in Brooklyn.

Fraser, who became the institute’s chief executive in 2016, has helped lead an investigative team of researchers that developed the training curricula for hairstylists and barbers recruited to educate their clients about health topics. Another initiative is a health sciences academy that exposes minority students to careers in the field.
