Senior Program Coordinator, Community Engagement
Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health (AAIUH) Mental Health Initiative

Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt


The Senior Community Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing programs under the Community Engagement & Research portfolio of the Institute. The Senior Community Engagement Program Coordinator is responsible for the implementation, monitoring and reporting of the Institute’s UNICEF sponsored community mental health engagement initiative.

Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Public Health or related field. Minimum two years of experience in program development and implementation, management/administration. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Familiarity with the Mental Health First AID curriculum is desired. Must have extensive knowledge of urban health issues, health education/behavioral health intervention programming, and experience working with diverse populations, including immigrant communities, and expertise in coordinating youth programs. Program evaluation skills are needed for this position including ability to analyze and synthesize program results for lay populations. Ability to manage multiple tasks and delegate appropriately required. Community coalition building and bilingual skills (Spanish, Haitian Creole) are highly desirable.

The Senior Community Engagement Program Coordinator general duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Manage and implement programs and services provided through the Community Outreach/Engagement department and monitor progress towards goals by maintaining appropriate program documentation.

  • Direct, supervise and participate in program specific recruitment and outreach activities for the community engagement program

  • Recruit participants for mental health initiative

  • Collaborate with staff across the Institute’s programs, including the Health Science Academy, to promote the Institute’s mission

  • Manage and implement the activities of the UNICEF funded mental health outreach initiative

  • Maintain knowledge of recent research, policy developments, and program innovations in areas related to the Community Health Empowerment (CHE) model. Proactively share information with Community Engagement and other program staff, as appropriate.

  • Manage the technical, logistics, and communications aspects of the outreach program, including ensuring timely/accurate distribution of information through seminars/webinars

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to plan and execute program activities

  • Coordinate and conduct team meetings including holding a master calendar, and providing technical assistance for all meetings

  • Conduct community outreach and research

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the AAIUH and the UNICEF training team/consultants

  • Maintain communication with selected partner organizations, including attendance at designated meetings

  • Maintain relationships with barbershops/salons and other project partners via phone calls and letters

  • Maintain relationships with stakeholder and advisory board members

  • Oversee the administration of surveys and other data collection activities

  • Review and edit all drafted materials related to the Mental Health initiative

  • Conduct training sessions on mental health

  • Implement plan for dissemination and/or publication of evaluation/research findings.

  • Draft abstracts and manuscripts for publication;

  • Develop and sustain appropriate networks, coalitions and working relationships (e.g. fosterand sustain relationships with other health related stakeholders; convene meetings of the various Community Advisory Boards and Committees).

  • Manage programmatic fiscal administration including budgeting and reporting and inform the Institute’s assigned Director about issues related to budgeting for mental health program

  • Oversee interns and program assistants/coordinators
