Doris Duke Foundation Interns
It's been a summer full of challenges and readjustments as COVID-19 has caused us to find creative ways to support our communities and continue the health science programs that are now more important than ever. On July 13th, we started our Doris Duke Foundation’s clinical research, Health Careers Opportunity Program's (HCOP) Summer Academy college prep and enrichment, and Brooklyn Health Disparities Center's (BHDC) community research internship – all remotely! AAIUH’s summer programs will run from mid-July to mid-August, serve 85 students, and provide much-needed stipends ranging from $500-$3,000. Studies will focus on a variety of subjects including math, biology, writing, health career exploration, and community-based research topics such as males’ attitude towards breastfeeding, and knowledge and attitudes towards HIV and Pre-exposure prophylaxis (or Prep). The future looks bright for these young students!
Fantastic adaptation during challenging times! It's inspiring to see how organizations pivot to serve 85 students remotely while maintaining program quality. The diverse research topics, from breastfeeding attitudes to HIV prevention, show real-world relevance. Just like navigating Snow Rider requires adaptability and focus, these students are building resilience and skills that will serve them well in health careers. The 500−500−3,000 stipends provide crucial support too!
